About JPG to PNG

PNG is a lossless format, which makes it a safer choice for images you plan to edit and save repeatedly, because each save does not add new compression damage. This tool re-saves your JPG (or JPEG) as a PNG in your browser.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose your JPG or JPEG images, or drop them onto the page.
  2. Wait for the previews to appear.
  3. Download each PNG.

Good to know

  • Converting to PNG does not restore detail that JPG compression already removed.
  • PNG files are usually much larger than the JPG they came from.
  • A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG will not have a transparent background either.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. The PNG is an exact copy of the JPG’s pixels. It stops further quality loss from repeated saving, but it cannot bring back detail that was already lost.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG stores pixels without discarding anything, so photographic images take far more space than in JPG.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your file is processed in your browser and its contents are not sent to DockFlip. The first time you use a tool, your browser may download the conversion library it needs from a public CDN (cdnjs or jsDelivr), but that download does not include your file.

Is DockFlip free?

Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and no cap on how many files you convert. The only limits are file size (100 MB per file) and what your device can handle in memory. Ads may be added later to cover running costs.

Why might a conversion fail?

The file may be damaged, in a format your browser cannot read, password-protected, or too large for your device’s memory. Try one file at a time, or a smaller file, and make sure you have a connection the first time so the converter can load.
