About Background Remover
This tool removes the background from photos of people and saves the result as a PNG with a transparent background. It runs an AI model inside your browser, so your photo is not uploaded to DockFlip. It works best on portraits, such as profile pictures, ID and passport-style photos and selfies, and is not designed for products or objects.
How to use this tool
- Choose a portrait photo (JPG, PNG or WebP), or drag it onto the page.
- Wait for the cut-out. The first time, the AI model has to download (about 25 MB), so it takes longer.
- Check the preview and download the transparent PNG.
Good to know
- Use a clear photo where the person is well lit and fills a good part of the frame.
- Photos of products, pets and objects can give poor results. This tool is built for people.
- Hair and fine edges may look slightly rough on busy backgrounds. A plain background gives the cleanest cut.
- Very large photos are scaled down to fit your device’s memory before processing.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The background is removed on your device. Only the AI model file is downloaded, once, and your browser keeps it for next time.
Why is the first run slow?
The first time, your browser downloads the AI model (about 25 MB). After that it is cached and later cut-outs start much faster.
Does it work on products or objects?
It is built for photos of people, so results on products, animals and objects are often poor.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your file is processed in your browser and its contents are not sent to DockFlip. The first time you use a tool, your browser may download the conversion library it needs from a public CDN (cdnjs or jsDelivr), but that download does not include your file.
Is DockFlip free?
Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and no cap on how many files you convert. The only limits are file size (100 MB per file) and what your device can handle in memory. Ads may be added later to cover running costs.
Why might a conversion fail?
The file may be damaged, in a format your browser cannot read, password-protected, or too large for your device’s memory. Try one file at a time, or a smaller file, and make sure you have a connection the first time so the converter can load.
