About PNG to JPG

PNG files keep every pixel exactly, which makes screenshots and graphics large. Converting a PNG to JPG (also written JPEG) can cut the file size a lot, which helps when a form, email or website has an upload limit. The conversion runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose one or more PNG images, or drop them onto the page.
  2. Set the quality. Lower numbers give smaller files; 90% keeps photos looking sharp.
  3. Download each JPG once the previews appear.

Good to know

  • JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in your PNG become white.
  • JPG works best for photos. Text, logos and sharp edges can look slightly softer than in the PNG.
  • Need to keep transparency? Use WebP or keep the PNG instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is JPG the same as JPEG?

Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format. The three-letter version exists because older systems limited file extensions to three characters.

Why is my JPG smaller than the PNG?

JPG discards detail the eye is least likely to notice, while PNG stores everything. For photos this saves a lot of space; for flat graphics the saving is smaller.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your file is processed in your browser and its contents are not sent to DockFlip. The first time you use a tool, your browser may download the conversion library it needs from a public CDN (cdnjs or jsDelivr), but that download does not include your file.

Is DockFlip free?

Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and no cap on how many files you convert. The only limits are file size (100 MB per file) and what your device can handle in memory. Ads may be added later to cover running costs.

Why might a conversion fail?

The file may be damaged, in a format your browser cannot read, password-protected, or too large for your device’s memory. Try one file at a time, or a smaller file, and make sure you have a connection the first time so the converter can load.
